RE–AGORA: Jaedong Elementary School Renovation
Since the site is close to historical sites and located at a
central point, a complex structure was created by designing a cultural center
where tourists can experience Korea and a hotel where they can stay. The main
idea of the project is like the Ancient Roman Agora. It is not intended to
bring together structures with different functions and people with different
needs.
The existing school sports area was lowered to the main road
level and more public level such as park and shopping was created. The existing
school building have a second level that is semi-public by accommodating
cultural functions. The last level is a hotel semi-private and private areas.
By separating the hotel mass from the existing school mass, it is aimed to make
the presence of these levels evident in the exterior design.
A vertical general space has been designed to be lowered to the
atrium cultural center created in the hotel mass. In this general space,
multi-purpose stairs have been designed for circulation between floors and for
use for different purposes.
