SUMMARY

Where do good ideas come from

The edge, Amsterdam is the smartest and greenest building in the world. Collective old oak is the First and largest co-living building of its kind, Francis crick, Europe's largest life science lab, serves as living proof of nurturing the creativity of its occupants. These notable projects from PLP, represent the innovation of built environment in each sector, have shared feature. They are the outcomes of collaboration between architects, client alike and researchers.

PLP-Lab, our in-house think tank that conducts interdisciplinary research in collaboration with leading experts from institutions like Cambridge University and industry giants like LG. PLP LAB investigates many topics such as mobility, new materials, smart cities, product design and the value of biophilic design. It plays important role to push the architects’ boundary and unlocking new ideas by exploring the potentials beyond the conventional realm. In this lecture, I would like to introduce two interesting research projects done by PLP lab, IUMO, integrated urban mobility and CLT & Mycelium, the innovative biomaterials.

  '더 엣지(The Edge)'는 세계에서 가장 스마트하고 친환경적인 건물이며, '콜렉티브 올드 오크(Collective Old Oak)'은  최초이자 최대 규모의 코리빙 빌딩이고, '프란시스 크릭(Francis Crick)'은 유럽 최대의 생명과학 연구소로서 가장 창의적인 생명 과학 연구시설로 인정받고 있습니다.  PLP가 디자인한 이 프로젝트들은 각각 업무, 주거, 연구시설등 다른 분야의 혁신 사례들로 꼽히지만, 공통적인 특징을 지니고 있습니다. 그것은 이 프로젝트들이 사내 건축가와 연구자들 간의 긴밀한 협업의 결과라는 것입니다.

PLP-Lab은 캠브리지 대학 및 LG와 같은 기업들과 협업하여 다양한 분야의 연구를 수행하는 PLP 사내 연구소입니다.  PLP LAB은 창립 후 15년간, 모빌리티, 신소재, 스마트 시티, 제품 디자인, 그리고 바이오필릭 디자인의 가치와 같은 다양한 주제들에 대해 탐구해왔습니다. PLP LAB을 통해 우리는 건축가의 전통적인 작업 영역을 벗어나 잠재 영역을 탐구함으로써, 사내 건축가들의 한계를 넓히고 새로운 아이디어를 끊임없이 발굴해왔습니다. 이 강의에서는  PLP Lab에서 수행한 프로젝트들 중 선정한  두 가지 흥미로운 연구 - 통합 도시 모빌리티(IUMO)와 새로운 바이오머테이얼( CLT & Mycelium) -를 소개하고자 합니다.

I am an architect and researcher, working as director for a London based practice, PLP architecture and PLP LAB. I am also a firm believer in the transformative power of design to shape the world around us.

After graduating Berlage institute in Rotterdam, I have been privileged to work across architecturally rich cities of Zurich, St. Moritz and London for past 15 years.

As a Designer, I have had the honor of working on a diverse array of projects, each challenging me to push the boundaries of architectural excellence. From crafting high-end residential piece to curating captivating hospitality spaces and conceiving iconic office complexes, I have been always exploring the endless possibilities of creativity.

As a Director at PLP Architecture & PLP LAB, my role has been defined by envisioning the future and driving strategic initiatives that shape our organization’s direction. Beyond my passion for design, I am deeply committed to research and strategic thinking. My dedication to exploring emerging trends has led me to author numerous insightful reports on topics ranging from post-pandemic changes in home environments to the future of workplace design and placemaking.

저는 건축가이자 연구자로서, 런던 기반의 회사인 PLP Architecture와 PLP LAB의 디렉터로 일하고 있습니다. 저는 또한 디자인의 변혁적인 힘을 믿는 낙관론자 입니다.

로테르구소를 졸업한 이후로, 지난 15년 동안 쥐리히, 세인트 모리츠, 그리고 런던과 같은 건축적으로 풍부한 도시에서 일해왔습니다.

영국의 FOA, 스위스 K⊇chel Architects 을 거치며, 디자이너로서 다양한 프로젝트에 참여하였습니다. 주거 공간부터 호텔, 업무시설, 마스터 플랜, 제품디자인등 스케일과 빌타입을 넘나드는 다양한 작품을 통해, 계속하여 디자인의 무한한 가능성을 탐색하고 있습니다.

현재 PLP Architecture와 PLP LAB의 디렉터로서 저는 다양한 주제를 연구하고,  디자인의 마크로한 방향을 조언하는 일을 겸하고 있습니다. 디자인에 쏟는 시간과 열정 이상으로, 저는 연구와 전략적 사고에도 관심을 두고 꾸준히 연구 결과를 공유하고 있습니다. 포스트 코비드 시대의 주거 환경 변화부터 오피스 디자인 가이드 북과 플레이스메이킹에 이르기까지 다양한 주제에 관해 다수의 통찰력 있는 보고서를 저자로 출간한 경험이 있습니다.
